Biography

Prof. K. V. Subramanian, currently an Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund, served as the 17th Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India from 2018 to 2021. As a visionary economist, he played a pivotal role in shaping India's economic policy during the unprecedented COVID pandemic. Recognizing it as a substantial supply-side shock, he implemented innovative fiscal measures, emphasizing public capital expenditures and undertaking structural reforms. His strategic insights, reflected in path-breaking Economic Surveys, propelled India toward high growth and robust macro-fundamentals despite global challenges. Dr. Subramanian, an alumnus of IIT-Kanpur and IIM-Calcutta, earned his PhD from the University of Chicago, contributing significantly to research in banking, law and finance, innovation and economic growth, and corporate governance, published in esteemed international journals.
